TURNING EVERYDAY DONATIONS INTO A MEANINGFUL IMPACT

At Vestal, giving back is a core part of who we are, and our team recently had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through our first-ever Vestal Cares St. Louis FUNDrive in support of Shriners Children’s St. Louis.

Our employees came together with incredible generosity, donating everyday items to help support a great cause while promoting sustainability through reuse. Across the company, the Vestal team collected 15 boxes of books and media, 28 boxes of household goods, and 58 bags of clothing, shoes, and textiles, demonstrating the collective power of small contributions.

Once the donations were delivered and processed by Saver's, the efforts resulted in a direct contribution to Shriners Children’s St. Louis , helping further their mission of providing specialized pediatric care to children in need. This initiative also helped extend the lifecycle of everyday items—reducing waste and supporting a more sustainable community.

The FUNDrive is a reflection of Vestal’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and making a difference beyond the projects we deliver every day. We are proud of our team for coming together to support such an important organization, and we look forward to continuing to give back through future Vestal Cares initiatives.

This year’s Home Opener gave us the perfect excuse to come together, celebrate the season, and show some love for the city of St. Louis.

As first pitch approached, excitement was high as the Cardinals took on their home opener and delivered a strong showing, securing a 9-7 victory. It was a great start to the season and an even better reason to celebrate!

To get into the ballpark spirit, we enjoyed all the classic game‑day favorites—hot dogs, Cracker Jack®, loaded nachos, and of course, some St. Louis‑made Mr. Fitz's root beer. Nothing says Opening Day quite like ballpark food shared with great company.

The fun didn’t stop there. Our team brought the competition indoors with a Wii Home Run Derby, where bragging rights were on the line and plenty of laughs were had.

Recently, our team gathered to celebrate the topping out of Wieland Group’s Modernization & Expansion Project, an important step toward delivering a new 400,000 sq. ft. rolling mill that will support the next generation of copper and copper‑alloy production.

This milestone reflects the culmination of months of detailed, multi‑discipline design and the seamless coordination between every partner on the project. It’s been a true collaboration with Helmkamp Construction Co., Graycor, and Salas O'Brien as the work transitions from design into construction.

We’d also like to congratulate our design‑build partners for achieving 125,000+ safe work hours with zero lost‑time injuries, an incredible accomplishment and a testament to the safety culture on site.

We’re proud to see our work taking shape in the field and grateful for the teamwork, expertise, and dedication demonstrated by everyone involved.

Wieland reports that the modernization will allow increased and improved production of copper and copper alloy components for EVs, EV charging infrastructure and renewable energy production through the installation of a new hot rolling mill.

The multi-phase project will replace Wileand’s existing hot-rolled copper coil production facility that was built in 1916. The new plant will feature hot-mill lines, milling lines, a cold-rolling mill, high-bay storage with automated material handling and overhead cranes.

The project will increase the casting capacity and quality of copper product production at the facility, the company said in a statement. The phased project includes deep foundations to support new casting equipment, an overhead crane for equipment setting, a furnace, a re-cooling system, distribution switchgear, the building’s superstructure, controls, and commissioning. The building structure will have metal siding and roofing over heavy structural steel to support the building and the equipment.

“Construction will occur adjacent to live plant operations and within a very tight site,” the company said in its news release. The team is currently in preconstruction for the plant expansion phase. The project is slated for completion in mid- 2028.

“To accelerate the overall project schedule, the project team is working closely with the major equipment vendors to design and build a facility in parallel with the design and fabrication of the equipment,’ says Steven Crowley, project executive for Graycor. Another challenge of the project will be completing construction as Wieland continues to operate at full capacity using its existing production lines.

“Because the project touches many parts of the facility and all previous green spaces have been or will be consumed with site improvements and structures, our biggest challenge is to safely complete the work while controlling site logistics to allow the facility to maintain high operational capacity,” Crowley adds.

Wieland’s total incentive package from the state includes $231 million in funding through the state’s Reimagining Energy and Vehicles program and other incentives. Wieland is eligible to receive tax benefits totaling $172 million over 30 years through REV. Other benefits include capital funding for infrastructure projects in East Alton, which includes the construction of a new electricity substation, funds for workforce support and additional tax incentives.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, ILLINOIS , June 6, 2024 – One of the world’s leading suppliers of copper and copper alloy solutions, Wieland is embarking on a $500M modernization and expansion of its facility in East Alton, Illinois. Construction has mobilized on the Casting Unit 6 (CU6) project, representing the first stage in this capital investment plan to re-equip, modernize, and expand a facility initially opened in 1916. Wieland selected Graycor Construction Company and Helmkamp Construction Co. as their construction team for the multi-phase project.

The overarching, multi-phase project will replace an existing hot rolling facility in East Alton that is more than 100 years old. The new facility will feature hot mill lines, milling lines, a cold rolling mill, high-bay storage with automated material handling, and overhead cranes.
